The Institute of Advanced Studies at University College London will be presenting a launch event for Joseph Boone's debut novel, FURNACE CREEK, inspired by Dicken's GREAT EXPECTATIONS, on Thursday, 24 February 2022, at 12.30-2.00 pm. The distinguished Dickens scholar and author of The Artful Dickens, John Mullins, will discuss the novel with the author, who will also read from this work.

The location is IAS Forum Ground floor, South Wing, Wilkins Bdg, London WC1E 6BT. Use the link below to sing up for the event as soon as possible, as seating is limited due to covid! Free and all welcome!

“With lyric beauty, welcome frankness, and rare emotional urgency, Boone reimagines Dickens’s Great Expectations in the American South, in the tumultuous 1960s, with a queer perspective and countless new and illuminating approaches. Furnace Creek generates suspense from both Dickens’s irresistible original framework and Boone’s fresh vision of the tale, a Southern Gothic whose innovations are always true to the realities of class, race, and sexuality of its milieu. Exquisite prose and a storyteller’s elan keep the story going."
